Cleaning Tips Big Chill

March may be the traditional time of year to undertake the annual clean but as the autumn months roll in and the children have returned to school or college now is the perfect time to blow away the cobwebs and get the house winter-ready!

At McCreery Contract Cleaning we are busy helping time-poor families enjoy some extra quality time together while we get their home spick-and-span for the holiday season ahead! Here are some of our ‘autumn’ cleaning tips.

Winter Wardrobe

It’s time to exchange flip-flops for-fur lined boots and swimming costumes for winter coats! A great way to organise the house is to start with your wardrobe. Pack away any light summer clothes and replace them with winter woollies that will see you through the Irish winter. Pack your seasonal gear in plastic boxes that store neatly in the linen closet or attic. A moisture proof container or packages is essential to keep your clothes in tip-top condition. When tackling the children’s clothes consider if they will still fit in six or nine months’ time. Likewise in the hallway, pack away those light macs and linen jackets and replaces them with parkas and duffle coats for the cold months ahead.

Keep on top of Household Maintenance

Retire the patio furniture for the winter into the garage or a garden shed, clear leaves and debris from the guttering and ensure that all the doors and windows are well insulated. Lag outside pipes and those in exposed areas. Get your boiler serviced now to get ahead of the winter rush for plumbers and ensure it’s in good working order throughout the icy months. If you do have an open fireplace, this is the time to sweep the chimney so that you can enjoy its fiery glow all winter long.

Home Comforts

With a cold snap on the horizon now is the time to think about making the home a little cozier. Place that order for wooden logs or top up the oil tank – it will soon be time to turn on the heat! Little touches around your home can make all the difference. Place an extra blanked over the beds, this can look really pretty as a bed runner in the meantime until the temperature dips. Drape a knitted throw on the sofa and add lots of soft cushions, the extra comfort factor will be much appreciated when there’s a chill in the air. Open fires always make a room extra snug or atmospheric candlelight can make your room feel really homely this winter.

Deep Clean

In Ireland we are well-prepared for the colder months and the harsher weather does not deter us from enjoying lots of outdoor activities. As the weather get wetter and wilder, fallen leaves, winter sludge and mud all make their way into our homes. A think door mat will go a long way to protecting your floor and carpets however a well-structured cleaning routine will do wonders to maintain your home especially in advance of the holiday season when friends and family will gather together.

If like many Irish families, you have a full schedule of children’s play dates, after-school activities, social occasions, not to mention jobs, household and community commitments perhaps this autumn is the perfect time for you to consider a maintenance package with McCreery Contract Cleaning.

Our Home Cleaning Maintenance Packages are agreed in close consultation with you, to allow us to provide a tailor-made service, and to allow you to enjoy a worry-free clean and hygienic home this winter and across the year. We’ll appoint a dedicated and expertly-trained cleaning professional, who will service your home and treat it like their own to ensure absolute satisfaction.
